Halo: Reach grossed $200 million in its first day, and was reviewed by many as the best Halo game yet. Halo: Reach received perfect to near perfect scores in all of its reviews. Reviewers cited a strong story, powerful gameplay, and visual graphics.

The complex multiplayer system attracted many players around the world with deathmatch based modes. It received critical acclaim from almost all reviewers, and Game Pro awarded it “Game of the Year”. In December 2007 alone it sold over 1.4 Million Xbox 360 copies, and was the best selling game from November 2007 to January 2008. Its impressive gameplay, popular online mode, intense story, and strong graphics gave it the power to become one of the best selling Xbox 360 games.

Set in a fictional city based off of New York City, Grand Theft Auto IV is the fourth game to the Grand Theft Auto Series. Grand Theft Auto IV follows Nico Bellic who is brought into the world of gangs, crime, and corruption. You are put into an “open-world” setting where you are free to explore, kill, and attack almost anything. On its first day it was released it sold 3.7 million copies in all systems, breaking the record for first day releases, and it made $500 million in revenue its first week. It was the highest rated current generation game in Metacritic getting 98%, it scored perfect or near perfect reviews, and became one of the highest rated games of all time.

Originally released as an exclusive title for the Xbox 360, Gears of War became a blazing hit among Xbox 360 owners. In ten weeks it sold over 3 million copies, and became the fastest selling game in 2006. In the game, you control members of the Delta Squad as you protect the fictional planet of Sera from Locust. The game was praised for its visuals and sounds. Furthermore, it scored 94% in MetaCritic, and many reviewers awarded it as “The Best Looking Game on the Xbox 360″ at that time.

Its vivid violence and action packed sequences, cut scenes, and overall game play made it a hit with Xbox 360 owners.

Within the first five days Activision claims that over 8 million players were online, making one of the largest armies of players. There are 23 missions in the game, and 69 star unlockables. It score 93% in Metacritic, 9.5/10 by IGN, and 5 stars from X-Play. Modern Warfare 2 once again raced through the top of the sales charts, and continues to be a popular game played by millions.

Halo 3 is the third installment of the Halo series, and is an exclusive game for the Xbox 360 system. Halo 3 continues the story arc of the first 2 halo games, and also concludes the story of the arc. Once again, the player controls Master Chief, a supersoldier, as he battles off the Convenant. In its first week it grossed $300 million, over a million people played the game online in less than 24 hours. Halo 3 was a critically acclaimed game scoring 94% in Metacritic, 10/10 IGN, and scored perfect or near perfect scores in other reviews. Reviewers cited the new forge world, ability to create your own map, and multiplayer as key points in the game. Bungie was again created a game that sold millions and attracted many players.

Bundled into the Kinect Motion Camera, which allows players to play games without controls, Kinect Adventures is a game that included 5 adventure and sports mini games. Kinect Adventures got mixed reviews from Metacritic of 61%, but since it is bundled with the Kinect it has sold over 10 million copies.

The 7th installment of the Call of Duty Series, Call of Duty: Black Ops is the sequel to Call of Duty: World at War, the 5th installment. It is the first Call of Duty game that is set in the Cold War, and sold more that 7 million copies in 24 hours (On all consoles). In only six weeks Activision reported that it had made over $1 billion in sales. Black Ops puts the player through the CIA’s covert operations in Cuba, Russia, Laos, and Vietnam. The goal of the game is to uncover the secrets of the chemical weapon Nova-6. Call of Duty: Black Ops received generally positive reviews, getting 88% in Metacritic, 8.5/10 on IGN, and 5 Stars on GamePro. Its strong plot, multiplayer, and of course, the zombie survival mode attracted millions of fans. However, Call of Duty: Black Ops was criticized for not bringing anything new to the gameplay of first-person shooters. Yet, how could you argue if its the top selling game on the Xbox 360?
